Libraries Need Diverse Books is a diversity framework devised with US Decennial Census Data that enables librarians to effectively create a diverse collection of books with consideration of the neighborhoods' demographics. Our team retrieved bestselling books data from NY Times and Wikipedia APIs and used them in an interactive prototype where participants can collectively contribute the diversity information of the books. Through this project, we discovered that application of data in practice requires datafication of resources in a specific domain. This project is intended to be scalable so it can be used and applied in other contexts as well.
